Shonda Rhimes: The Disrespect Was The Point

Imagine you work for a company for over 15 years. Imagine that over that time you have made, said company, over $2 billion; Imagine your company offers free Disneyland theme park tickets as a “perk” but they are only for the members in your household. Imagine you are a workaholic, who never has time to use said theme park passes, so you ask an executive in your company for an extra ticket for your sister, so your oldest daughter can have a companion, since you younger two have a nanny, are only a year apart in age, and your oldest is 10 years older than they are. Imagine that executive gives you the ticket, but not before asking, “don’t you have enough” and neglects to validate the extra pass, so your sister gets embarrassed when she visits Disneyland. Did I mention that you have made the company over $2 billion dollars in a 15-year period, and all you asked for was an extra theme park pass, with a net worth of $150?

This is the straw that broke the camel’s back for Hollywood powerhouse, Shonda Rhimes, and the catalyst for her moving to Netflix with a seven-figure deal in 2017. We, the public, often wondering why the sudden move, but in recent Vulture and Hollywood Reporter interviews. And no, for the misogynists and racists, Shonda has enough money to buy her own theme park, but it was the principle, and a breaking point for a litany of offenses over her 15 year tenure with the network.
