Reason, Season, or Lifetime

Since having MS, there are those days when life beats me down. Not that I am depressed per se, but those days when I feel the gravitational pull to have a pity when I contemplate all that I have lost (mobility, agility, friendships, etc.). So, it is during these times I must tap into my spiritual reserves. In other words, get close to Black Jesus.

I started out by going to YouTube and listening to a live performance of BeBe Winan’s Stand, his performance at the late Congressman Elijah Cumming’s funeral. This performance led me to a live sermon by Bishop TD Jakes, the subject, Let It Go! If you are familiar at all with Bishop Jakes’ ministry, you know that not only is this a whole sermon series, but it has penned several books under the same title. The overall premise is forgiveness and being able to let go. But in this sermon, he was also preaching about reason, season, and lifetime, as it relates to the people in our lives.

Reason people are those people who come into our lives to teach us something about ourselves. We need to learn how to forgive, to love, or to trust. Those people will be in our lives until we need to learn the lesson.

Season people are those people who enter our lives when we are experiencing certain seasons in our lives. Most of the time it has to do with growth, but sometimes, it is a season of difficulty. Once the season is over, the…
