Protecting Your Peace: My Holiday Wish for All of You

Thanksgiving is especially hard this year. We are in the middle of a pandemic, recession, and it is the time of year that reminds you of how much you have lost, in terms of family, finances, and sometimes, even friends. Personally, I do not think I have had a worse year than this one, if we want to leave out the years of 2000 (the death of my grandmother who raised me), 2008 (the end of a ten year romantic relationship), 2009 (the death of my best friend). But there’s a little bit of hope on the horizon, with the election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in 54 days, we usher out an old regime, and usher in a new one, which promises hope, change, economic prosperity, containment of COVID-19 , and just basic decency all over again.

But while we wait for those 54 days to pass, and while we’re stuck in the house during a global pandemic, or while we are struggling to find peace in the midst of toxic family and internet bullies, my wish for you this holiday season is for you to, protect your peace.

One way to protect your peace is too stay away from people who promote toxic positivity. You know the type. These are the individuals who see you struggling and rather than lending a hand to help, tell you either suck it up, remind you of those who have it so much worse than you do, or who are more concerned with bombarding you with how great their lives are.
